PONDICHERRY (2N) - KUMBAKONAM (2N) - CHETTINAD (2N)
DAY 01: CHENNAI – PONDICHERRY (165 KM / 3 HRS)
Upon arrival at the Chennai airport, our tour representative will assist you in smooth transfer to Pondicherry. En route visit the beautiful Mahabalipuram, which is famous for its temple & beach. Visit the Caves, Krishna Mandapam, Five Rathas and the shore Temple. Continue driving to Pondicherry. On arrival, check into hotel. Evening is free to relax or take a walk on the street of Pondicherry. Stay overnight at the hotel.
DAY 02: PONDICHERRY DAY SIGHT
After breakfast proceed to explore the city, visit Aurobindo Ashram, French Heritage, Puducherry Museum, Botanical garden, Memorial House, Villiayanur, Mansion of Ananda, Manakula Vinayagar Temple, Vedapureeswarar Temple. Enjoy boating at Chunnambar backwater & the beautiful beaches of Pondicherry. Return to the hotel for overnight stay at Pondicherry.
DAY 03: PONDICHERRY – KUMBAKONAM (130 KM / 3 HRS)
After breakfast, proceed to Kumbakonam via Chidambaram in the district of Cuddalore. Chidambaram has one of the oldest, most venerated and magnificent temples of South India. En route visit the Shiva Nataraja or the Dancing Shiva stands in his cosmic dance pose in the sanctum sanctorum. Flanking the temple are 108 sculptured illustrations of Bharat Natya Shastra. It is open from 06.00 am till 1.00 pm and again from 4.00 pm to 8.00 pm. On arrival check in to the hotel in Kumbakonam.
DAY 04: KUMBAKONAM NAVAGRAHA TEMPLES
In the morning, have a visit to Navagraha Temples around Kumbakonam. First to Vaitheeswaran koil to have the blessings from the Lord Ankaragan (Sevvai) and then Thiruvengadu for Budhan, Keelaperumpallam for Kethu, Thirunallaru for Sani (Saturn) and then return back to Kumbakonam. Overnight Stay at Kumbakonam.
DAY 05: KUMBAKONAM – CHETTINAD (139 KM / 3 HRS)
After breakfast, proceed to Chettinad, en route, visit Brihadishvara Temple in Thanjavur.Brihadishvara Temple is a magnificent temple, situated in the Thanjavur. It dates back to the 11th century and was founded by the Chola King Rajaraja Chola I. The temple is considered to be an architectural wonder and is the perfect example of the expertise of the erstwhile Chola rulers, who once ruled over the peninsular India.On arrival, check in to the hotel.The rest of the day is at leisure for various independent activities. Overnight.
DAY 06: CHETTINAD TOUR
After breakfast, proceed for a local sightseeing tour of Chettinad that includes visit Raja’s Palace, old Chettiar Mansion and Vairavan Kovil Temple. Raja’s Palace – The Chettinad Palace was designed and constructed by Dr. Annamali Chettiyar, founder of the Indian Bank and the Annamalai University in Chidambaram. It is located 10 km from Karaikudi, Tamil Nadu. Chettinad Palace is also called the Raja House. Chettinad Palace is one of the most glorious examples of Chettinad’s widely famed grand mansions. The Chettinadu Mansion is a sprawling, opulent 19-century mansion in Kandukathan, is a heritage hotel today. The mansion is one of the largest among the 3000+ Chettiar mansions in the area. The owners, descendants of the original inhabitants live in the mansion, and 12 rooms have been opened to guests. Guests can view the blueprints of the original mansion. Vairavan Kovil Temple is located near Karaikudi. This is one of the Ashta Bairava Sthalams. The history of the temple dates back to more than 1200 years. The legend behind the temple states that Kashyaba Munivar’s son Sooran performed a severe penance towards Siva and he was granted a wish that no one can destroy him other than Siva himself. The rest of day is at leisure for independent activities or you can opt to visit Athangudi village to see the hand-made tiles, handloom saree weaving house.
DAY 07: CHETTINAD – MADURAI DEPARTURE (76 KM / 2 HOURS)
Departure transfer from hotel in Chettinad to airport / railway station in Madurai.
